In 1948, George de Mestral was hunting in the Swiss mountains. He was plagued by cockleburs, which stuck relentlessly both to his hunting pants, and to his dog's fur. It was so difficult to disentangle the tenacious seed pods that de Mestral was intrigued, and examined them under a microscope. Well, Gorge, noticed that the exterior of each burr was covered with hundreds of tiny hooks that "grabbed" into loops of thread or fur.

It took him 12 full years from that day to bring his idea of a man-made cocklebur to market.   When you think of Adherence, the ability to stick to your plans, you have to think of people like George de Mestral.  Not only did he stick to his plans over time, but the thing he was planning really stuck to him!  His perseverance resulted in one of the stickiest substances we know - Velcro!
