Leading from the Core

Leadership is an inside job. We must lead ourselves to a higher level before we can inspire extraordinary results from our team. We cannot lead where we dare not go. We cannot credibly ask others to pursue team excellence if we do not pursue personal excellence.
 Our company logo reflects this approach. It contains three aligned L’s representing the three integrated levels of leadership that drive success:

- Organization Leadership
Great leadership requires skill and character. Our character is, at the core, personal leadership. Necessary skills vary at each level of leadership. For example, personal leadership entails effectively managing our time, attitude, priorities, values, health, self-knowledge and self-talk. As we broaden to team leadership, we must effectively manage relationships, budgets, interpersonal communications, selection of our team, performance and development of others and group dynamics. At the organizational leadership level, we focus on strategy, vision, collaboration, large scale change, culture, enterprise communication and external relationships.
Our ability to lead teams and organizations is directly dependent on our ability to lead ourselves. If the core is rotten, then so is the apple. So, lead from the core to reap the fruit of great leadership.
